Getting a Workout Doesn't Have to Leave You Hurting

(ARA) - Most people slow down as they enter their golden years, but not Christine Chalupa, 57, of Seattle. She pushes herself to the limit every day.

"I have been biking for 15 years and running competitively for about five," says Chalupa. "On the days when I'm not competing, I go to the YMCA and workout. I have to do it because if I don't, I just don't feel good."

Josh Madigan, 25, of Minneapolis, Minn. says he exercises for the same reason. "Exercising helps me stay fit and gives me the energy I need to make it through the day," says Madigan.

Both amateur athletes are getting what they want out of their exercise regimens now, but it hasn't always been that way. "I used to get terrible chafing between the legs when I ran long distances. The only way it would go away was if I stopped for a week or two to let the chafing heal," says Madigan.

"When I first started competing, I had terrible bouts with chafing. I would rub Vaseline or petroleum jelly between my thighs to try and prevent it, but that didn't always work," says Chalupa.

The chafing problem went away practically overnight for both Chalupa and Madigan when they started using BodyGlide, a skin lubricant that contains no petroleum and no medicine. The product comes in a convenient stick and it ‘glides on' to the skin. It is used anywhere on the body to help prevent chafing and blisters.

"Before BodyGlide came on the scene, there were other skin lubricants containing mostly petroleum or other oils. The ‘magic' ingredients that set BodyGlide apart are all natural waxes derived from plants," says Bill Sternoff, the company president.

"When you are exercising, your body temperature rises by several degrees. Typically, it leads to blisters on your feet and irritation or chafing, elsewhere. Lotions and ointments, such as petroleum jelly or Vaseline, won't stay where you put them because the oils don't adhere to the skin. And when you perspire, which is necessary to cool the body, the moisture causes the oil-based products to float away, which leaves your skin vulnerable to friction burns, chafing, and blisters."

Sternoff says the trouble comes from skin rubbing against skin such as in the thighs, rubbing from shorts, sports bras or other clothing, and from athletic shoes and footwear that cause blisters. "The non-oily, non-messy BodyGlide formula penetrates the cells of your skin, stays where needed, does not clog pores, and it comfortably guards your skin against friction wherever you need protection," says Sternoff.

BodyGlide comes in two formulas: original and BodyGlide SPF, which has a sun protection factor of 25. Both are water and sweat resistant. BodyGlide SPF is often used just as sun screen because it stays on and won't melt off.

The reputation for long-lasting reliability in recreational and competitive sports, most notably running, cycling, swimming and triathlon, led to development of a topical analgesic used to get warmed-up for activity, and for pain relief.

"WarmFX ‘glides on' directly and it warms you up. You don't have to wash it off your hands, which is the number one complaint about other analgesic products. It's self-actuating, meaning the more WarmFX you apply, the hotter it gets and the longer it lasts," says Sternoff. "While most analgesics are used after you develop pain or soreness, WarmFX is formulated to get you ready for activity. It stimulates your circulation, it's non-oily, it penetrates your skin, and it stays where you need it." WarmFX is an over the counter product, easy to use to help prevent soreness or for pain relief in the shoulders, neck, upper and lower back, legs or knees.

BodyGlide products are available at general sporting goods, outdoor, and specialty running, cycling, and swimming stores across the United States and Canada. They are also available online from a wide variety of retailers. For more information, log onto www.bodyglide.com or call toll free (888) 263-9454.

Normally when I go to the gym today, I will see guys working out but also laughing, talking and standing around. Honestly, they will take 5 minutes between sets. I often wonder if this workout or a Social Event. Let me tell you what is not happening during this kind
